Oh yeah. If you do that new computer drive through, all the homes in my old neighborhood are still looking very good. Caatle Hill and parkchester area.

1990-1996 Gleason Ave. apt 5H still there. Built in 1927 (going on 100 years). Three and four room apts.
Plaster walls, lead paint, one electrical outlet per room, old fuse boxes. Noisy plumbing and sealed up (painted shut) dumbwaiter shafts since VJ day. I guess by now it has been upgraded many times over the past 50 years.
Still miss growing up in the old place. Great memories. Even when the grouchy super chased us away for playing ace-king-queen against the wall.

My building on West Tremont was razed and a middle school was built. They also closed up lower Davidson Avenue for the school. My building was actually two buildings where could go from one to the other without going into the street.

My childhood apartment building is still there, but sadly it's now a designated Section 8 building managed by NYHA. Long gone are the hedges along the sidewalk, the stone sculptures and steps leading into the front courtyard, the furniture in the lobby, the stained glass over the front French-style entry doors. Now, there are imposing bars on all the ground-floor windows, gates across the entry courtyard, grafitti on the brick walls, and a large sign on the front stating, "STOP! This is not a trash dump site." Sigh...
