Was Mary Austin (1953?) Miss Rheingold or Miss Subways? I voted for her at the butcher's store on Arthur Avenue but I was only 5 and I could BAARELY reach the ballot box on top of the glass counter, so someone picked me up so I could place it in the box -- everyone laughed good-naturedly...
I loved that store with the sawdust on the floor and, behind the counter -- the black white mama cat with her latest brood of mirror image kittens.
