Jerome Ashby was a world renowned French Horn player for the N.Y. Philharmonic Orchestra. Although his on line biography makes no mention of him being from The Bronx Jerome lived across the street from me at 1925 Harrison Avenue. Our group played all the street games of the day and he was just a nice kid. I can still remember himself and his mom coming home in the evening during school and Jerome carrying a big encased musical instrument that was the French Horn.Jerome attended school downtown at Juilliard and his mom worked down there so that was why he didn't get home til after 6pm from school. Unfortunately Jerome passed away several years ago and I've often thought of approaching the NYCHA which owns the building today about the process of naming the building after him. This would require the cooperation of the family I'm sure which may be difficult.
