For displaced, misplaced, and nostalgic ex-Bronxites

And the dumbwaiter.......we had both. When we had good weather, we'd dry our laundry on the roof. If the weather was bad, we had a contraption in the kitchen where we'd release a rope and down it would come and we'd hang laundry there. The roof was also our beach.... my friends from the building and I would sunbathe there...otherwise we'd go to Orchard Beach. We had such great times growing up in the Bronx.
