The Duncan Yo Yo Guy
|
|
Posted by Yehuda Ben-Dov on Mon, Apr 08, 2024
Do you remember the Duncan YO YO Guy? He would appear on stage in the movie theater between films along with the various cartoons, races, newsreels, Batman and Buck Rogers type serials and a whole variety of fun stuff. He would do live demonstrations with the Duncan Yo Yo. I saw most of mine at the Deluxe Theater on Tremont and Belmont. Charlie Goldberg

He'd 'appear' out on the corner near the candy store and do his tricks. A very talented yoyo-ist! We loved him and everyone bought a yoyo.

That's right, Judy--he did his thing outside the theater as well and tried to convince us to buy Duncan Yo yos instead of Cheerio yo yos.

Sorry Irv, I lived on Belmont/175 and went to 92,44, Roosevelt and graduated Taft in 1957. I did go to the Bronx Jewish Center in your neighborhood. I have been living in Israel for more than 50 years now but still got Da Bronx in my heart and soul--wonderful place to grow up in those years, Charlie

What Bronx candy stores did the yo-yo man hang out at? I guess he had a "territory", I am thinking these appearances were probably in close vicinity to where he lived!

Candy store corner of Pugsley and Gleason Aves. None of us knew him. But he may have been from nearby.
