Davidson Avenue Return to topicsPost to this topic

NY YIMBY (YesInMyBackyard) covers all the boroughs and one posting for Chicago,
one for Philly, two to three for California and one for Florida. The one today for
2175 DAVIDSON AVENUE said it was for affordable housing, eligible income from
$87,052 to $146,900. And this they call affordable......so like all the boroughs,
the Bronx is becoming too expensive, at least for me.

Dear Barbara it's 2024, $87-146,000 is "affordable"; in California it's not even a down payment. I don't know 2175 specifically but it is a nice location: close to NYU (now BCC) and walkable to Alexanders. I'd live there if we go back to the 50s. Sorry to say, we're not going back. It's 2024. Just be thankful we were so lucky to have grown up in the Bronx. And I wish that luck to whoever buys that "affordable" apartment.

Alexander's???!?? What planet are you living on?

And the reference is to income requirement, not down payment.

I grew up 3 blocks east of 2175 Davidson. Sadly you couldn't get me to live there for free.

I grew up at 1800 Davidson Avenue until 1964. I concur with your evaluation.

Before you condemn the area, go take a ride. I grew up on University north of 195th and the last two rides showed an area as clean and nice as the mid 60s. I'm due for another ride. Admittedly, the last trip showed some dirt between 195th and Kingsbridge when the ride before did not

Howard: planet 1950s. just a reference to what a great location it was. And yes, income, just trying to say $100,000 is not a large income as it isn't even a downpayment (at least in CA). That's why they say affordable.

I will say I went back to my old block just before the pandemic. Parked my car at Buchanan place between Aqueduct and Harrison Avenue. It was early in the day and it was like I never left(left in 1974). Just the faces changed. Walked the Ackie down to Burnside Avenue. Have to admit it was a clean walk. All the college kids were walking up and down the NYU steps going to and from their classes. Spoke to some area residents, was told nightfall brings out the crime. So Sad.
