In the sixth grade [1962] at PS 67 - my teacher had a FOUR BLOCK WALK to get to the school. I know my 4th/5th grade teacher lived in The Bronx in the Pelham Pkwy area because for 14 years I had lived in an apartment building across the street from the building she lived in.

I had Ms. Berdan in 5th grade in 1959. She was very regal looking. I didn't know she lived on CPW but I'm not surprised.

I don't think I had any teachers with an upper-class background, but in P.S. 7, I, who lived on West 228th Street and Broadway, had a teacher who lived on 262nd Street. To me, that was "the ends of the earth." I had another teacher who lived in Tarrytown, and at that age (age 9) that might as well have been in Siberia.

I also had Mrs Flynn for 4th grade at PS 90. She had the most elegant script penmanship. Which didn't transfer to me. In 6th grade I had Marsha Deutsch-Cohen. All of the boys had a crush on her, and we were heartbroken when she married during the year.

My 6th grade teacher lived in my building so I guess we were in the same "class."
