Who remembers organized singles meetings or events, in the Bronx or otherwise, back in the '80s and '80s. Most of these time these events were very uncomfortable , awkward and disappointing. I remember going to two or three in the Bronx--one, a "rap session" (meaning talk, not hip-hop) in Bronx House; also a "Northeast Bronx Singles" event at someone's house where some guy was going on and on about Ayn Rand, despite the fact that few people seemed to be interested. Even after I was married, I read a passage from my book at a singles meeting at the Riverdale Y, figuring that because the book was about three young guys who were single and were constantly looking for girlfriends, the book would interest them. It didn't.
