I go over what is suggested on the bill. I am def not well-to-do, but if they are pleasant and answered questions, why not. What's a few extra bucks.......the lunchtime waitresses get small tips because lunch is less expensive than dinner, so I over compensate. It's my nature and I got it from my parents.
